The Biotechnology Center at the University of Concepción (CB-UdeC) is created on December 16, 2002, to respond to the Development Strategy of the Region of the years 2000-2006, defined by the Regional community involvement . The building of the Biotechnology Center was inaugurated on September 27, 2005.



The Center for Optics and Photonics, was created in 2009 following the award of the Second National Competition for Scientific and Technological Excellence Base Financing Program of CONICYT Centers. It is a center of scientific, unique research in Chile, which brings together a consolidated group of physicists and engineers linked to the Optics and Quantum Information, Opto-electronics, Characterization Nondestructive Materials, Nonlinear Optics and Technology Remote Sensing Satellite.



The project arises from the need of the University to have a space that would serve as an area of ​​development practice, product development and business linkages to agribusiness career that did not have it in the province of Bío Bío. His main field of action: Developing technologies and specialized services in the areas of process engineering, product development, postharvest fruit and vegetables, developing tools and procedures.



The Center for Ecosystem Research in Patagonia (CIEP), established under the Regional Programme for Science and Technology of the Government of Chile, began operations in late 2005 and today is projected as a center of academic excellence.

Located in the Aysen region, CIEP seeks to promote the development of scientific and technological research in Patagonian ecosystems, optimize the use of regional scientific capacity demand or conducting research related to the study of watersheds and their associated ecosystems, promote the development of sustainable productive activities in the region and constitute a national and international excellence in basic and applied scientific research in Patagonian ecosystems.



The Center for Research in Mathematical Engineering (IC ² MA) University of Concepcion brings together the most active of the Department of Mathematical Engineering of this university researchers with researchers-collaborators from other departments and faculties of the University of Concepción and some local universities.

The main purpose of the center is to provide an environment of excellence in research that is perceived by the scientific community and the productive and service sectors as a solid framework for consultation and much more visible and close collaboration a typical academic unit. The creation and implementation of CI²MA is one of the most important goals of an initiative awarded in early 2008, in conjunction with the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM), University of Chile, Program CONICYT on Basal Financing Science and Technology Centers of Excellence.




Advanced Microscopy Center of the Bío - Bío (CMA Bío - Bío ) was established in 2011 , thanks to an initiative of the School of Biological Sciences and funded by the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT ) . Serves generation optical microscopy and flow cytometry support all disciplines of basic and applied research , biomedicine , forensic and industrial area .

The center offers traditional and spectral confocal microscopy, multiphoton microscopy, super- resolution structured light (SIM ) , laser microdissection microscopy and FT- IR micro-images. On the other hand , has a flow cytometer cell sorter .

The images obtained from microscopes can be analyzed through image processing service focused on refinement, interpretation and quantification of images using Imaris software from Bitplane as .

In addition, the CMA Pampanga serves technical assistance through the processing of samples through cryostat , vibratome and cell culture.




Center for Advanced Polymer Research located in the Bío Bío Region VIII. Our goal is to promote the creation and development of scientific and technological knowledge in the field of polymers, conducting cutting edge research and training new professionals in order to contribute to development of the region and country.

As a research center specializing in polymers, specifically seek to contribute to the competitiveness of this sector, becoming the bridge that unites the scientific and technological knowledge to the needs of the plastics industry, as well as related sectors.



COPAS Center of Excellence Center FONDAP is dedicated to scientific research of traffic, ecology, biogeochemical cycles and paleoceanography of the eastern South Pacific.

Its aim is to understand climate variability and ocean present and past in the region, their impacts on ecosystems and regional productivity. This research is conducted on a multi-and interdisciplinary. It covers various spatial and temporal scales. It is based on direct observations, retrospective analysis, experimental and modeling approaches, and is conducted through six research programs.



Environmental Science Center EULA-Chile is a product of international collaboration, its origin lies in the EULA Project, which received the support of Italian universities during the years 1990-1994. This allowed the University of Concepción, create an academic unit specializing in environment: the current "Environmental Science Center EULA-Chile, equipped with its own physical infrastructure, equipment and personnel also largely generated and trained to throughout the project.



We applied research in the area and mineralogy minero, facing the mining-industrial sector, research in characterization of solids, and support for problem solving in the fields of chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, metallurgy and civil.

Our challenge is to contribute decisively to link the University with the productive sector, in line with current policies of the State of Chile, which require that the generation of knowledge and training of human resources in the area Geological Mining and Metallurgical is first-order need for the country.



The Mission of TIGO is the realization of a fundamental reference point in time, space and gravitation for the realization of global reference systems.

The global reference systems are the basis for the georeferencing of all kinds of objects. Without these systems, the tasks of navigation on land, water, air, space, map production, definition of borders and boundaries would not be possible.
