| In 1919, the University of Concepcion was founded, becoming
the first regional university in Chile. The University's founder, Enrique Molina,
was also its first President proposed that " this new University, in addition to
professional education in liberal arts and technical sciences, as required by the
development and increased national wealth, will be center of information for the
public, outreach, scientific research and experimentation, and the promotion of
best literary, humanist and philosophical culture ".
