Professor Jorge Yáñez belongs to the Faculty of Chemical Sciences, Department of Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Concepción, Chile, since 1998. Jorge Yáñez is assistant professor at the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemical Sciences of University of Concepción. He received a Biochemist Title from the University of Concepción, in 1991. From 1993 to 1997 he was doctoral grantee at the Institute for Spectrochemistry and applied Spectroscopy (ISAS), Dortmund, Germany, obtaining his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Kassel, Germany, in 1997. From 2000 to 2002 he was director of the division for Service and Technological Assistance of the Faculty. From 2011 until 2013 was dean of the Department of Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry. In 2000 he was research scholar at the Department of Chemistry, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA and visiting professor at the University Research Institute for Analytical Chemistry and University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA. He teaches analytical and environmental chemistry. His research field involves environmental chemistry, forensic chemistryincluding the analytical methodology development and treatment/remediation methods for hazardous materials. Special emphasis is focused on effects of chemical species and speciation of arsenic, mercury, chromium and tin species in the environment and humans. His projects have been funded by international institutions such a Fulbright Council and Department of State (USA) and by national institutions such as CONICYT (National Council for Sciences and Technology) and CORFO (Corporation for Foment of Production).
